Between May and December, horse racing feeds the hope and the passions of thousands of Mauritians. As part of the heritage left by the Birtish, the Champ de Mars is one of the oldest Horse Race tracks in the world. Away from the beaches and the hotel resorts, horse racing in Mauritius is a passion beyond belief. Almost every weekend, thousands flock to the race track, taking thousands of bets. Created in 1812, the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC) was build two years after the British took control of the island. Between the relative poverty of Mauritius, the paddock is filled with rich Mauritian families. view gallery |
